It's still in many ways the Wild West here (on the internet). You can just rob a saloon, shoot the sheriff and ride into the horizon... And you don't even need a new face or fake documents --- just sign up for another fake alias and troll around.

Imagine if people said the things they say on the net to real people in face-to-face life --- I imagine it would put a great deal of stress on the entire law enforcement infrastructure as we know it.

Posting anonymous snide comments on someone's blog is very much the same as sending anonymous letters to a person and his acquaintances, or publishing something of the sort in a magazine. Harassment and libel, no?

Poor people get acquainted with cockroaches whether they wish to or not.

However, here's a ray of hope in dealing with the worst of the metaphorical kind:

A Manhattan judge ruled yesterday that a blogger can't hide behind a web of anonymity while flinging the ugly words "skank" and "ho" at somebody online.

Google was ordered to give up the identity of a blogger who had devoted an entire blog "Skanks in NYC" to maligning model Liskula Cohen. Now Cohen can sue for defamation of character.

Of course this is just one place on the globe and this legal opinion won't rule internationally. But perhaps it's a turning point for those who feel that they can say any thing they wish as long as they're anonymous, no matter how nasty, damaging, or threatening.

Myself, I became so spiritually advanced that the four regulative principles no longer mattered. The four regulative principles are for neophytes that can't remember Krishna when they are smoking a joint or balling the babe.
The modes of material nature will act upon the body, but they cannot act upon the one who remembers Krishna in all circumstances.

We are not the body. What the body does has nothing to do with the soul. The soul cannot be effected by illicit sex or intoxication. Once we realize that we are spirit souls, we no longer identify with what the body is doing as a reaction to past karma.

By the way, I am accepting paying disciples who can appreciate my special teachings.

Sometimes I think it is a case of sour grapes. Oh you blooped devotees, enjoying all that sense gratification that we can't.

Many of us aren't living the wild, debauched lives you like to fantasize about. I didn't leave to go on some sort of spree of gambling, intoxication, meat eating, and illicit sex. My lifestyle didn't change all that much, just my inner beliefs.

In the history of ISKCON many "bigshots" and "Krishna nerds" left the cult and merged back into secular society.
Just think about Achyutananda Swami.
The guy disappeared completely off the map and nobody has a trace of his whereabouts, at least that I know of.
So, there is nothing new about a so-called big devotees blooping and giving up on cultivating KC.

For example, I was a big, big leader in ISKCON and then I blooped.
So, yeah, big, big devotees like me and Ananda we sometimes bloop and return to the material cosmos to enjoy petty sense gratification because we never actually found the ecstacy and samadhi that we expected would come with a serious stab at bhakti sadhana for a few years.

Ananda is a god now. We should all welcome him into the fold as one of the immortals.
He was obviously very hurt on several fronts for whatever reason.
For me, his so-called renouncing Gaudiya Vaishnavism hit me like a Tusnami. I think it probably hit several others in a similar way.
His wife was probably the least surpised, because she in fact was his most intimate associate for quite some time.
It is very sad for many of us who actually admired and respected the intellectual contribution that Ananda brought.
Yes, some of us are hurt.
I am past trying to punish him for it.
I have forgiven him and accepted him in his new identity as a non-Gaudiya Vaishnava. Not that I am or ever have been a Gaudiya Vaishnava.
I am not a Gaudiya Vaishnava.
I am just a small town American materialist who once tried to be a Hare Krishna.
Am I in a position to condemn Ananda?
No.
Most certainly I am not.
I did dog him for a while for breaking my heart, but I am a fairly thick-skinned guy and I got over that fairly quickly.

Give the guy a break.
He needs some breathing room.
I have no use for cult living or cult lifestyle either and I wish him the best in becoming a useful professional with a successful career.
That is what I want for my kids too.
Ananda is only about four years older than my son.
Still, he seemed so much wiser and smarter than me.
He was such a bright mind with potential to bring fresh ideas and attitudes to the global GV community.
He did contribute many good ideas and exposed some of the bigotry inherent to the ISKCON culture.
He probably doesn't realize how much recent actions have really hurt and disappointed certain people.
